Dear fellow activist, When I visited the West Bank in December 2001, I met a Palestinian father who told me about life under Israel's military occupation. Earlier that year, his village was invaded by Israeli soldiers. He went out to gather his children, and was shot. As he lay bleeding, the soldiers yelled at him to get up, and when he could not, he was kicked until he lost consciousness. Now he is paralyzed from the waist down. As he finished speaking, he glanced up from his wheelchair toward his aged father, who held his young son, and said softly, "There is no terror like occupation." In spite of the violence visited upon him, this man remains committed to nonviolence. He is active with the International Solidarity Movement (ISM), an organization of Palestinians and internationals who use nonviolent direct action to challenge the occupation. The Israeli military has a history of shooting at peaceful demonstrators - particularly when they are Palestinian. But as founding ISM member Adam Shapiro explained at Christ Church in Harvard, the presence of internationals provides a margin of safety. Hundreds of internationals went to West Bank and Gaza for Palestine Freedom Summer, a fifty-four day campaign of actions designed to morally and directly challenge the occupation. Actions included, depending on circumstances, marching through military checkpoints, digging up the earthen roadblocks that close nearly every small village, and joining Palestinians in their homes to defend against demolition by the Israeli Military. Several people in our community want to go as Boston delegates to Olive Harvest Campaign. We need your moral support, your prayers, and your financial help to make this possible. Airfares are running at around $800, expenses will be around $200 per week, including room, board, local transport, and use of a cell phone for media work and coordination. All funds go directly to the delegates for these costs. Please help if you can, the delegates are ready to go. In Solidarity, Bostontopalestine
