Susan
- Ambulance runs, Missing persons, Re-invasion
Qalqilya, West
Bank
Monday August
12th, 2002 (to Ken by phone)
Our group is now
down to 6 people. Two Americans and one
Spaniard have now
headed back to their home countries. But
we expect a few
new ISM arrivals, shortly.
We are continuing
our check point watches, home visits, and
round-the-clock
ambulance accompaniments. I went on three
Qalqilya-Nablus
runs today.
I also visited
a family whose son was arrested on the first night
of the recent re-invasion.
They still had no information about
where he is being
held. I was able to put them in touch with a
Palestinian coordinator
who told them what jail he was in; he
also told about
a human rights organization and how to contact
them.
Tomorrow, Garrick
and I will pay a short visit to Jerusalem in
order to participate
in a meeting to evaluate the Freedom
Summer campaign.
Participants will include Rapprochement
Center representatives,
ISM coordinators, and some
internationals
who have been with the campaign for
substantial periods
of time.
Hold on. 1:26 A.M.
The IOF has just entered the main road--looks
like another re-invasion
night. The first group included a tank, a
jeep, and an APC.
Then another group followed--a tank, an
armored vehicle,
and an APC.
We went out on
the street and watched one of the tanks roll by.
Correction Note--re
last report (8/8-8/11)
This report contained
a line of misinformation. The military
actions in Qalqilya
on one of those nights certainly did include
home disruptions
and arrests. But home demolitions were
mentioned in the
report and this was incorrect4there were no
home demolitions
that night.
