Members
We wish to express our condolences and sorrow for the tragic
death of Ms.Rachel Corrie in Rafah yesterday. Rachel's work truly
embodied the highest of humanitarian values and principles. Let
us all hope and pray that the world will pay more attention to
the war crimes committed by the Israeli army.
In solidarity,
on Behalf of members and staff of the Palestine Red Crescent
Society.
In loving memory of Rachel Corrie
The Palestinian children are
asking where did our Rachel go? Where did our real Superwoman
go? Who is going to protect us now? There was no answer.
Rachel, I have never met you before, I have never heard about
you before But it is as though I have known you all my life,
as though I went with you to school. That we used to hang out
together. Rachel you have left your country, a thousand miles
away. You traveled to a foreign land, dangerous land, to protect
people unrelated to you. People, you realized, are just human
beings like you. People who could not protect themselves. You
died defending others. You died in line of duty ( a peace and
a justice duty) You are a martyr of peace, What a noble way to
leave this earth. Rachel, now that you are up there, do not think
for a second that your job has ceased here on earth. You can
still pray for the Palestinian children, that one day, may be
one day they may forget about Tanks, bomb shells, rubber bullets,
snipers, explosions, demolitions of houses, check points, and
death, That one day they will go back to school, that one day
they will not seethe fear on their fathers eyes, on their mothers
eyes, that one day they will stop considering suicide bombers,
as their idols, that one day they will be like... the children
in your home town, Olympia, that they can wake up on the morning
and find breakfast ready on the kitchen table, a bole of cereal,
may be a glass of orange juice, some water from the tap not from
the well miles away, the school bus waiting, yes Rachel, the
Palestinian children, your parents, we all miss you, nd we are
all proud of you, and this earth is grateful for the short time
you spent here with us, always doing what you believed was right.
In the region you loved most, people do not cry when a martyr
dies, rather they sing, your parent should also sing when they
think of you.
Fly in the sky, rest in peace,
peace that you so much loved.
Your fellow human being A. Amezzane
Statement on the death of Rachel
Corrie - Congressman Jim McDermott
March 18, 2003
I am saddened and horrified by
the death of Rachel Corrie on March 16. The
U.S. must require and the Israeli government must provide all
of the facts
about what happened on Sunday.
What we know is terrible: a young,
unarmed woman was killed when a D-9
armored bulldozer driven by a member of the Israeli security
forces ran over
her.
What we must find out is important:
How could a brightly dressed woman with
a bullhorn have failed to be seen by the bulldozer driver? What
orders are
the drivers given? How are they trained? What are their "rules
of
engagement" with protestors?
We extend heartfelt condolences
to the Corrie family and to all members of the International
Solidarity Movement on the murder of Rachel During her valiant
and nonviolent efforts to prevent the destruction of a Palestinian
family's home. The occupation has led to a cheapening of human
life - Palestinian, Israeli, and others.

May Rachel rest in peace, and
may her family take comfort in the compassionate and precious
soul of their dear child.

Please transmit my condolences
to the family and friends of Rachel Corrie and assure them that
for many people all over the world she will be a symbol of personal
courage and moral integrity. Her tragic death is not in vain
and it could be a turning point.
Over thirty years ago I became sensitive the the suffering of
the Palestinian people, they have endured and continued their
struggle in face of enormous injustice and indifference. I am
with you with all my heart.

Peace and more peace be unto
you, my dear friends. I share your heartache and
outrage. I wish our sister "Racha" the eternal peace
that surpasses
understanding. Ameen. This tribute in verse to her is from my
heart. What I
really desire is that her family and other immediate loved ones
see this.
Please do what you can to disseminate this poem. I am a veteran
of the Civil
rights Movement, and the Vietnam War protest movement. I have
dedicated my
life to social justice and peace. I will remember Rachel Corrie.
She now is
part of who I am trying to be, a peaceful and peace-promoting
soul. I urge
you my brothers and sisters not to lose heart or despair in these
trying
times. This darkness portends the coming, and even now the presence
of
Light. Please continue to let your lights shine as drum majors
for truth,
peace, and justice.

Letter to the Globe,
The death of Rachel Corrie, the
college student from Olympia, Washington, crushed by an Israeli
bulldozer, while attempting to halt the destruction of a Palestinian
home, at last will concentrate the minds of Americans on the
practice of the Israeli government, which has demolished countless
Palestinian homes with impunity. If any other government in the
world indulged in such barbarism, the U.S. administration would
be loud in its denunciations, but, because our client state does
it, the American administration is mum.
Rachel Corrie, and the other
volunteers of the International Solidarity Movement, who risk
their lives to protect Palestinians, are to be commended and
supported by all of us who believe in human dignity and rights.
