Jan. 14th 2004 From the Palestine Activist Forum of New York:
On April 11, 2003, Tom Hurndall, a British volunteer with the
International SolidarityMovement, photographer and student, was
shot through the head by an Israeli sniper in Rafah,Palestine
in the occupied Gaza Strip. The sniper started shooting into
a crowded area, andmost of the children who had been playing
there fled, along with the adults. But three smallchildren were
left, frozen with fear. Tom, who was clearly visible wearing
the bright orangejacket of an international volunteer, had already
carried one boy to safety and had returnedto help the two girls
who remained. The bullet hit him as he bent down to take one
of them tosafety. He laid in a vegetative state at the Royal
Hospital for Neurodisability in Putney,England after suffering
severe brain damage with no possibility of ever recovering. Today,Tom
passed away. He was only 22 years old.
Tonight we stand in solidarity
with Tomâ¤s family and friends in mourning
and we remember the courageous way he lived. We will join our
fellow activists on Monday January 19th at theMLK-day march against

,ORGANIZING IN ISRAEL/PALESTINE: March for the Right to Non-Violent
Civil Resistance
WHEN: Monday, January 19th
- MLK Day - Meet at 12:00 pm sharp.
WHERE: March from 39th St & Broadway to Union Square
(**NOTE THIS NEW LOCATION**)
The last three weeks have
seen a huge increase in Israeli military attacks on non-violent
Palestinian,
Israeli and international civil rights demonstrators: at marches,
funerals and in daily life activities. The right to organize
is essential for any process towards peace and self-determination
- and to ensure that we have alternatives to violent struggle.
ISRAEL'S MILITARY VIOLENCE against non-violent civil resistance
MUST Cease.
On Martin Luther King Day,
honor the U.S. struggle for civil rights, racial and economic
justice, and the right to organize without fear of reprisals.
Demand an end to Israel attacks on non-violent civil rights resistance
in Israel/Palestine!
